The 2017 Gulf-Qatari crisis and the Egyptian position on it
Main Article Content
Abstract
The 2017 Gulf-Qatar crisis was one of the most significant regional crises to have occurred in the Arab world, given the Gulf's vast oil and natural gas resources. Egypt played a significant role in the crisis, supporting the Gulf Cooperation Council in its stance against Qatar and agreeing with them on accusing Qatar of supporting terrorism and destabilizing the region by backing extremist groups such as the Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas. Egypt also sought to be part of the diplomatic efforts to resolve the crisis by supporting mediation efforts leading to a settlement, as Egypt viewed the crisis as part of a broader struggle for regional influence.
